Weddings can happen at any time of year and often you don’t get to choose your ideal date. It may depend on when you believe there will be suitable weather (although you should always have a backup plan when the weather surprises you) or when your perfect venue has an available date for you. Don’t be surprised if this means the wedding clashes or comes close to other significant dates. One of the most common and still surprising occurrences is when the wedding date falls close to the bride’s birthday. Here is what you can do to make the birthday still feel special.
The bride is going to receive a lot of gifts for the wedding. So many in fact that many people who often get her a birthday present will forgo that on this special occasion. It makes sense too. Most people only have one wedding in their entire lives while they have a birthday every single year. Choosing a great gift for the wedding is far more important than another birthday. However, if you are the groom you better make the wedding the greatest day of her life and her birthday a gentle reminder of why she married you; because you are thoughtful and amazing. So make it special.
The most important thing is to steer well clear of any gifts that may be common at a wedding. While she may love it when you think of things she has been asking about for ages, many of those things will fall into a wedding gift category and will be drowned out. You need to get her something meaningful and special.
A great place to start is flowers. If she loved the flowers at her wedding you could choose some of these to form a larger bouquet perhaps mixed with romantic roses. This will show her that you are remembering the wedding and showing her how much you love her. Don’t stop there.
Jewelry is always a great gift. Be mindful of what she wore to the wedding and what jewelry she chose for the wedding day and the other occasions that came with it. She likely chose her jewelry to match certain parts of her outfits. Maybe she had to choose rose gold when she usually loves to wear silver. Try and get her a meaningful piece of jewelry that is a different type to what she purchased for the wedding. If the wedding is falling right after her birthday, you could do the opposite. You could buy her an expensive piece of jewelry that you know she will love to wear.
You can always get her an experiential gift instead. This is a treat for her for a day. You can choose between a couple’s activity or something just for her. It may be a white water rafting trip or a spa day. Cater it to her interests.
The other option is to go for something really special. After or before the wedding is an incredibly romantic time. You don’t want to screw this up by getting a gift that lacks romance, so make a special effort to show her how much you love her. If it is her 30th birthday you get thirty individual cards and write how much you love on her each one. Perhaps you could hide them around the house or local park and make it into a treasure hunt. Going to this extra effort will show her what a kind and generous soul she married.
In many ways, a birthday close to a wedding is no different from any other. It is time to show how much you care. However, it is a little more important as when she remembers the special wedding day in many years to come she will likely also remember how her birthday was spent. Make sure she spends it in a way that she fondly remembers.
