One of the best parts of a wedding is the rings. You will wear a sign to the world that you are in a loving committed and happy relationship. It all begins with an engagement ring when the proposal takes place and then a wedding ring on this special day. Still, while everyone wears wedding rings, many are confused on what hand they are supposed to wear it, what finger and why. Find out more by reading on:
The ring is the symbol of the eternal bond between a couple. The circle is seen as an unbreakable bond as it has no end and no beginning. This is the reason for the simple gold band we see on most fingers when married. Traditionally the ring is worn on the left hand (although there are some who disagree) and it is generally worn on the fourth finger (the one beside the pinky). Of course, in reality, it doesn’t matter what finger you wear it on or what hand you use or if you choose to wear a ring at all. It is your marriage so do whatever makes you comfortable. If you are a believer in tradition then you may be interested to learn why this ring and this hand, hold such importance.
This particular tradition dates back to Roman times. The Romans believed that the fourth finger on the left hand had a vein that ran directly to the heart, they called it the vein of love and placed a ring over it to signify the love that those who are wed share. Many countries do not follow this tradition with the people of India, for example, believing the left hand to be unclean and so they wear the ring on the right hand.
Now you know the tradition behind the wedding ring, what will you do? Many people are choosing new and innovative ways to show their love to people with some getting tattoos on the ring finger, and others just getting a puppy. Whatever way you choose to show your love, enjoy it.
