Your wedding day is supposed to be perfect. Perfection is difficult to achieve in any aspect of life and trying to achieve it on what will be one of the most chaotic days of your life is even harder. There are two ways to approach this mammoth occasion. One is to hire a wedding planner. This will put extra security on the perfection dream as now there is one more person, with some experience, also trying to achieve this goal. The second approach is to tackle it on your own. This may be a cheaper option and it may give you more oversight into every little item. If you have the time and if you want to do it, then it is still a solid option.
If you choose to plan your own wedding you must be careful not to forget certain aspects. There are so many things to think of when it comes to your wedding and forgetting one tiny item could cause havoc on your special day. I recently attended a wedding where the couple planned their own celebration but forgot to book a celebrant. They were so fixated on everything else they left out one of the most important elements. To ensure that this does not happen to you we have one very special piece of advice. Embrace lists.
To run the perfect wedding you will need three lists. You will need a list for the ceremony itself. You will need a list for the dinner and you will need a list for the reception after the meal. This is the easiest way to split up the day and allows you to cover off every single item. Once you have completed a draft for all three lists, share them with three friends who have been married before. This will allow them to spot anything that is missing and to contribute any great ideas that they have.
The ceremony list often seems like the simplest one to follow. You book a venue and assume everything else is taken care of. However, there is a lot to check off. You must ensure that you have the right number of chairs, the right flowers, that you have someone to place the flowers, what time each member of the wedding party will enter and the guests too. Everyone should have their place and know their role. Dig into the detail and leave nothing to chance.
When it comes to the meal you need to list all the items you want on the table. Some couples like to put pictures of the guests down, others put little party favors. Ensure that you have some people on hand to help set everything up. You may want to plan time for speeches and everything else and this can all be included in your list!
Finally, you need a list for the party or the reception. Make a list of every item that is required in the hall, whether it is a band, a DJ, or simply Spotify and a speaker. Decide on whether you are running an open bar or not and detail every item on your list as well.
It is clear that these three lists will be long and complicated but they will allow you to have a simple overview of what needs to be done on the day. The best part about the three lists is that when you have completed them you can then hand them over to some willing family members. You will be pretty busy on the day so get someone else involved to ensure things run smoothly. Whatever you do, remember you wanted it to be the perfect day so you could enjoy it. If you do forget something don’t worry, you can still have a great time.
