When planning your wedding day, it’s important to make sure that everything is accounted for so that there are no last-minute surprises. However, no matter how hard you plan, there is always the potential for unforeseen circumstances to take hold at a moment’s notice. For Melissa Rodger, this type of spontaneity would come in the form of a broken elevator that almost made her miss her own wedding reception.
Unfortunate Timing
While on her way to the wedding reception, Rodger took the elevator with a few other attendees to save time and energy. After all, why would you want to walk up 18 flights of stairs in a dress on your big day? However, this plan quickly backfired once she realized that the elevator wouldn’t move. Frantic and nervous, the bride was thankfully able to contact her husband through a bridesmaid and explain the situation.
After about 20 minutes, it still seemed like the elevator was not moving. This was when they had to call the fire department who then had to pry the door open and clear a path for the people inside to safely get out of the elevator. Those working on the scene apparently said that they had never seen anything like it before!
The Reception Still Happened
Despite this tumultuous time, Melissa Rodger was able to make it to her own wedding reception and still have an incredible time. In fact, even though the entire process of getting her out of the elevator took 45 minutes, she was only 20 minutes late to the reception. Thankfully she had some champagne, though, to tide herself over!
A Unique Situation
Though some people might take the elevator situation as a negative thing, Rodger took it in stride and even took hilarious photographs of her holding champagne while in the broken elevator. The other people at her wedding also seemed to celebrate the moment in an incredibly light manner, celebrating joyously and laughing once the bride was rescued by the firefighters.
One of our favorite parts about the entire situation is when her husband reaches out to her after she escapes the elevator and gives her a big kiss. This was an incredibly sweet moment and something that shows the love the two have for each other. In a way, this was also a great way to prepare them for married life, as the entire notion of marriage is inherently unpredictable!
In a way, this mishap with the elevator may have been a great exercise for a recently married couple to partake in. By being thrown into a stressful situation without any prior notice, they had to work together and find a suitable solution that would make everybody feel calm! We absolutely love how the couple was able to work together and fight the odds to make their special day even more intimate and unique.
