Some people have a big list of name suggestions ready for their babies before they are even born. It’s funny, but many couples decide on the baby’s name even before the pregnancy. On the other hand, there are people who wait until the last possible moment to name their babies. Most people can find the perfect names for their babies pretty easily, but some face a lot of trouble finding the right one. There is one question that many people might have in their minds. And the question is, what will happen if you never name your baby?
Here is how it usually works
Typically, the hospital will make you name your newborn right after birth. You have to name the baby within 24 hours of its birth, or before the mom gets discharged from the hospital. If the mom had a C-section delivery, the baby has to be named 72 hours before being discharged. There are still chances that you can leave without naming your baby, but expect your State’s Health Department to get in touch with you for not completing all the required paperwork.
But what if you do it differently?
If you decide to ignore the State Health Department’s call and don’t give your newborn a name, you will not be doing any favor to him/her. In fact, you’ll create multiple problems for the kid. While it is not a crime for a person to be without any name, it is horrible because people won’t have any idea about how to call or identify such a person. Another problem is that such people without any names can’t get their social security cards, passports or driving licenses issues. They can’t vote either because they won’t have any voter identifications. They will have issues in working legally and no bank will open accounts for them. These are just some of the problems that a baby will face if you don’t name it. It will be strange, but you yourself won’t have any way to call your baby.
Some people don’t name their babies because they want their children to name themselves. In the US, now hospitals have started writing a baby girl and baby boy on the birth certificate and leave it on parents to take time and decide the perfect name for their babies.
