There are so many details in a wedding that if you try and hire a professional to provide every one you will likely need to mortgage your home just to afford that perfect day. However, if you choose the big items to be managed professionally and look after the small ones then you can have a wedding that looks the part and fits your budget too. Today we want to focus on one of those small items that are incredibly important but that you can manage yourself. Nails.
Of course, we are talking about fingernails. If there is a section of weddings that requires a plan in hammering nails, we will let you know in another blog (there isn’t). Getting your nails professionally done isn’t going to break the bank so it is likely an affordable option for most people. However, if you are trying to save every dollar then it is an easy place to save coming up to the wedding.
There are other upsides to doing your own nails as well. One of the main upsides is that you save some time in the run-up to the wedding. While you will likely book your nail appointment in the days running up to your big day. It will be tough to find time as those last few days are pure chaos. If you do book early to save time right before the wedding then you risk chipping a nail and having to fix it yourself. If you do book it very close to the wedding then you risk not having the time and having to sacrifice something else to make that appointment. When you decide to do your own nails you basically decide to make it fit your schedule and you can do touch-ups right until the last day if required.
The other advantage to doing your own nails is that you can have so many practice runs of a variety of styles. Imagine choosing one style the day before your wedding and hating it. If you do your own nails you can play with so many different options and ensure you love the look before those crucial wedding day photos are taken. Let’s face it, the hands appear in a lot of wedding close-up pictures, so your nails need to look great. Here are some styles to consider.
The French Manicure
Also called French Tips, we love this look. This is the classic bride pose and we have to say that it looks incredibly elegant. It is the timeless approach to nails and if you are worried about how pictures will look in twenty years’ time then choose this option.
This is also an easy look to complete at home. Simply paint your nails with clear polish, we recommend two layers. Then paint the tips of your nails an opaque white color. Finally, apply a top coat to seal in your wonderful work.
Bejewel it!
Of course, your dress and the entire decorations of your wedding will probably be out of style in 20 years anyway, so you might as well enjoy it now. Bejewling is all the rage at the moment and applying some tiny crystals to your nails for the special day can be a subtle (or over the top) touch that completes the ensemble. We recommend painting your nails the same color as your dress and then have some fun. Try a bunch of different designs on your nails to decide what looks best. Bows, hearts, lines, or something more simple could all be the right answer.
If bejeweling isn’t bold enough then you could always add some metallic art. File this idea in the ‘bold and brave’ section of your creative wedding folder. If you are feeling risky running up to the wedding try some out and if you don’t like them, the French Tip is always a great option.
