We often come across people saying, “everything old is new again.” This seems to be true, especially when it comes to historical fashion trends. Past fashion trends sometimes come back bizarrely with ridiculous outfits and some extraterrestrial updates. So today, we will have a look at some of the weird fashion trends from history, especially those which have been molded by contemporary designers and transformed into trendy must-haves.
Flannel
It was previously associated with the grime look during the 90s and is regarded as a casual material even now. So it becomes a bit strange to think of flannel as a fashionable trend. But nowadays, everyone knows how to wear flannel to look stunning and on point. Like many other trends, this particular kind of material was not always worn for the sake of fashion.
In the 17th century, this kind of modern fashion trend emerged as a replacement for welsh wool grab to keep the wearers dry and warm. In the United States of America, flannel was popular due to being an improved choice for the working man’s uniform. Over time, it became more cheap and tough in material for soldier’s underwear.
Showing off your socks
This cool trend of wearing crew socks and deliberately showcasing them over the jeans and even with skirts and dresses have evolved as time went on. First of all, we had the 1920s spatter dashers, which were worn by men to protect their shoes and pants. After this came 1940s medium size socks that fell somewhere between the knee and the ankle.
This kind of fashion might not be the cup of tea for every other person, but it does make some sense. If you are not careful, your shoes might end up giving you some painful blisters on your feet.
Sagging
Sporting sagging pants might be the weirdest fashion trend that has ever been seen. This fashion basically consists of wearing the pants right below the waist to reveal a major part of underwear. However, it requires a certain amount of attention to maintain the balance to avoid dropping. This fashion was seen becoming popular among men at the beginning of the 21st century. This trend is believed to have started from American prisons where prisoners were not allowed to wear belts.
Pointy shoes
Shoes with pointy tips were popular in the 2000s. Later on, the popularity of these pointy shoes declined, but now again, we can notice a rise in this strange fashion trend. Many people believe that this particular fashion trend started with Crakows in the 15th century. These were shoes with extremely long noses.
Strange fashion trends of the past decades have baffled many people. Some modern trends like culottes or mermaid’s hair may seem normal when it comes to the fashion of yesteryear.
