Your wedding is a day of celebration and excess. The focus is exclusively on you and your partner. Do your part to show appreciation to your guests and your community by giving back to the less fortunate on your special day. Here are 5 ways to give back on your wedding day.
Ask people to give donations instead of presents
It’s traditional for guests to bring a gift to a wedding. It demonstrates well wishes to the couple and gratitude for being welcomed to join in on the festivities. Instead of accepting presents, ask guests to donate to you and your partner’s favorite charity.
Give away gifts that give profits to charitable causes
When you choose your party gifts and decorations, buy from companies who give a certain percentage of their profits to a charity you agree with. A wedding can be expensive, and you can write out the checks knowing that you are doing some good with the celebration.
Have the wedding and reception somewhere responsible
There are a number of venues that are owned and operated by charitable organizations. When you have your wedding at one of these places, you are supporting the charity that owns it. Some people think that they won’t be able to find a gorgeous venue this way, but you’d be how nice some of them can be.
Donate leftover food and flowers
At the end of the wedding, you would be amazed at how much food and flowers are leftover. Most of the time, these food and flowers are simply thrown away. This becomes a waste. You don’t have to allow this to happen, though. Choose a caterer who takes whatever is leftover from the celebration and gives it to a homeless shelter or some other similar place.
Go on a honeymoon to do good deeds
Most couples go to a tropical location for their honeymoon. You don’t have to have a traditional honeymoon. If you and your new spouse would prefer to do something good with your time, consider scheduling a trip to go do charity work in one of the many places around the world that could use help.
Your big day should be everything you want it to be. That doesn’t mean you can’t make it a day that will help others as well. Use one or all of these tips to make your wedding an event that shows who you and your spouse are as a couple- giving.
